Miss California Answers Same Sex Marriage Question

If you haven't heard already, Miss California, Carrie Prejean was asked about same sex marriage during Sunday night's Miss USA Pageant. Here we are two days later, and her response mixed with a fiery debate about said response, is all over the news and Internet. First of all, that we care this much about what some good looking girl has to say about anything is absolutely ridiculous. What a sad testament to our society. Anyway, self proclaimed gossip queen, Perez Hilton, (Is that really his name? Seems a little too similar to Paris.), asked Miss California her thoughts on same-sex marriage, to which she responded with an honest answer. Watch the video to see what she had to say.

The Question & The Answer

First I will address her ignorance. Miss California...WAKE UP. It is now 2009, and it is time to let go of the old way of thinking, which means the way you were brought up is outdated! Whoever raised you may be great people, but their values are off. Gay people are the same as straight people. They are the same as white, blacks, male, female, and every single person alive deserves the same rights. Haven't we learned anything from our past? First it was women who did not have the same rights, but we fixed that. Then it was black people who didn't have the same rights, but we fixed that too. Why is it that we can't just skip all this "fighting for your rights" crap and just give everyone in this country the rights they deserve. It is inevitably going to happen, but instead we insist on spending time, money, and endless resources arguing both sides. It is time we learn from our historical mistakes, and stop being so ignorant. What does it matter who marries who anyway? I'm sorry Miss California, but gay people getting married really has no affect on you personally. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet that she has never really even given the topic any real time and consideration. She simply accepted what she was told as a child and moved on. She's a beauty queen...of course that is what happened.

I will give her credit for giving an honest opinion, however I will not defend her like CNN contributor Roland Martin. In this article he applauds her honesty, and then goes on to defend her for answering the question the way she did. Her honesty is not the problem Roland! The problem that everyone has with her, is her actual opinion, and if you took any time to think before you spoke or wrote, you would have come to this conclusion as well. It is absolutely fine that she was honest, but it is not fine that her honesty is ignorant, outdated, and just plain stupid.

And then you have this guy...

WHAT A MORON! This guy is almost as bad as Miss California. I will say that I have to agree with the way that she should have answered the question, but other than that, he's just a rambling fool. Calling her a bitch, is completely out of line. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of a bitch is as follows: "a malicious, unpleasant, selfish person, esp. a woman." Miss California was not malicious with her answer, she was not unpleasant in her mannerisms, and nothing she said exemplified selfishness. To say something like that about a person he clearly does not know on a personal basis is ludicrous. Just because someone has obscure views does not necessarily mean they are a bad person, so if you are going to insult someone, do it in a way that doesn't make you look like an asshole!

So who wins this debate? I do. Miss California, until you can join us here in the present day, please do not speak. Roland, find a new job. I have been watching and reading you for two years now and have found very little that is worth the time. And you Perez Hilton, show a little dignity. You asked a great question and got a not so great response. There is no need to behave the way you do. You sir, are an idiot.

Just incase you did not know the state she is representing voted against gay marriage! by passing prop 8 last november. The majority of America agrees with Miss California, including the Vice President, Joe Biden, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. I believe you voted for the Obama/Biden ticket. Funny how you voted for someone who needs to wake up and are ignorant. According to your article the other people I stated need to WAKE UP and are ignorant too.

I agree with you. I didn't vote for Obama/Biden because of their views on gay marriage. Their views on this topic are ignorant, so we are in agreement!

john lombo 3 years ago

Who did you vote for or did you not vote at all? I am against gay marriage, I totally believe in civil unions between gay couples. Marriage is a sacrament between a man and a woman in the eyes of God.

I did vote for Obama. Perhaps my wording was confusing. Their views on gay marriage had nothing to do with my vote. Why are you against gay marriage? Only because God says so? Show me where He says that.

john lombo 3 years ago

are you serious craig. it is throughout the bible. god says that the act of homosexuality is an abomination. he destroyed the cities of sodom and gemore because of their homosexuality. where do you think the word sodomy came from. the city of sodom. I follow the word of God over any law or act of government. I can give u exact scripture verse if you want it

Leviticus 18:22 (New King James Version)

22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13 (New King James Version)

13 If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Romans 1:27 (New King James Version)27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (New King James Version)

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

how is that craig? did i give you enough scripture references both in the old and new testament

Sure, but the fact that there are so many interpretations of the bible goes to show that it is just that...an interpretation. So if you consider God's law above all else...does that mean you don't like gay people, and that they are all going to hell?

Lindsay 3 years ago

It doesn't say anywhere in there that we don't like gay people. Different versions of the Bible are not interpretations, they are different translations. Although the exact wording is different, the meaning is still the same, and very clear. What exactly is your interpretation of those verses?

C.Ferreira profile image

C.Ferreira Hub Author 3 years ago

First, translation and interpretation are one in the same:

http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/translation, http://thesaurus.reference.com/browse/interpretati

I really could care less what the bible says about gay people. If they are "less" of a person because the bible says so...then I will write another one of these posts that will piss even more people off.

I just don't understand why if all men are created equal, we all do not have equal rights. The logic just isn't there.

So no, you probably don't dislike gay people, but you also don't think of them as equals if you don't think they should have the EXACT same rights that you do.

Lindsay 3 years ago

The Bible also very clearly states that no one is "less" of a person no matter who they are or what they do. All men are created equal, and if I believe the Bible, then of course I believe that as well. But marriage was created by God and is a sacrament from God, and how could something so obviously against God's plan for us (no matter the translation), be blessed by Him as well?

Read any other definition of both words and you won't find that they have the same meaning at all. Check out Websters or the free online dictionary or just google synonyms for both words.

john lombo 3 years ago

the bible is the word of God and if anyone claims to be a christian you abide by it and live your life by it. The bible never says a gay person is less a person or is not equal. The act of homosexuality is a sin. just like using the lord's name in vain, adultery, gluteny, lying, etc.. Jesus died for the gay man just as much as for me and you. Jesus loves the gay man, just does not like the sin he commits. Gay people do not go to hell because they are gay. If they do not accept Jesus as their lord and savior, believe he is the son of god, died on a cross and rose again. they are going to hell. Every translation of the bible says the same thing. the act of homosexuality is a sin. it is what the bible says. plain and simple. I believe gays have the same rights as straights. Marriage isnt a right, it is a sacrament. That is why civil unions are set up. In America there is a simple solution about gay marriage, each state puts it on a ballot and the people vote on it. That my friend is true democracy.

Thats what I did...and those were not the only ones that came up.

Anywho...I hate to break it to you, but if someone is not less of a person in the eyes of God, then there is no reason why they should be treated differently. Not allowing them to marry is treating them differently. Different treatment does not equal....equal.

I can understand and accept the sins that cause harm. Murder, theft, adultery, lying, etc...they cause harm unto others. Two guys or two girls going at it has ZERO affect on anyone else. Why, then, should it be cast in the same role as the aforementioned harmful sins?

Lindsay 3 years ago

I know, without a doubt, that my marriage is a sacrament and is blessed by God. But if you could care less what the Bible has to say about marriage and homosexuality, then we won't ever agree. I am confident that when I die and face God, He will be pleased.

john lombo 3 years ago

I guess to end this debate we have one conclusion. I believe in the bible and God and you don't.

could not agree more. the thing that struck me the most was that people were making a stink about what this girl thought about anything. maybe she's a Rhodes scholar. chances are she's not. it's sad in '09 that people don't get that marriage, gay or straight, is nobody's business except for the two people involved. or five people, in parts of utah. it's also sad that a miss america contest can be blown up into such a mini "controversy" when we have much more pressing issues to adress

Your ideas were great, right! But honey, I think your words were not properly addressed to anybody concerned...If you are really fighting for every individual's right, then... why it seems that you can't accept their right to express what they feel about... anyway, these may be their own opinion. I guess, we all have it. Peace!

C.Ferreira profile image

C.Ferreira Hub Author 3 years ago

I never said they shouldn't have the right to express their opinions...I, on the other hand, expressed my opinion that their opinions are all ignorant and outdated.

chaixkee profile image

chaixkee 3 years ago

we all have the best opinion.. it's just happen that yours is not the same us theirs.. if you think they're ignorant and outdated, then respect the their ideas... and respect everything that is written...everywhere... here... most especially from the book of God

C.Ferreira profile image

C.Ferreira Hub Author 3 years ago

That's the thing...I don't respect their ideas because they are ignorant and outdated. That is the point of this Hub. I respect their right to be honest and have their opinion, but that is all. I am not going to scrutinize anyone for having an opinion, but I will speak my mind all I want about their opinion, especially if it doesn't rear its head toward equality of all people.

hubchub 3 years ago

well you basically asked her miss california) not to speak until she agreed with you. Kinda lame for someone who belives in equal rights.. perhaps freedom of speech should be one of them. Marriage in the dictionary uses the word man and woman. I agree with that, on the premise that "God" created marriage. However many men and women today get married not before god but before their family and friends under their own beliefs. The problem is a with the word more than the action.

C.Ferreira profile image

C.Ferreira Hub Author 3 years ago

I don't know how many times or ways I have to say it...I never once said that these people do not have the right to speak or should not have spoken. By asking Miss California not to speak until she joins us in the present day, I was merely adding some comedic relief...perhaps not a great attempt, but it was my light closing argument, not the meat and potatos of the Hub.

I guess the problem here is the Bible! There was a time when being a "good christian" meant the earth was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, muslims needed to be eradicated, the pope was jesus on earth and could order the torture and execution of thousands of innocent men and women "to cleanse their souls", and free thought and science were violently stamped out for a thousand years. How many times does the Bible have to be wrong? How many times does it have to fail you utterly before you will understand that it was written by man to control man! Fine, if you want to believe in the morals and values put forth by the Bible that is great, some of them are pretty good (don't kill, don't steal, etc). However, when I see adults using the same old excuse "because the Bible tells me so" I am deeply saddened. To think that after we have come so far from the Dark Ages, when Christianity ruled the earth and killed everyone who dared to think for themselves, that some of us still allow ourselves to be tricked like that... if we can't learn from the mistakes of our ancestors.... perhaps we do deserve what we get.

Ok... so you think marriage should only be between a man and a woman. That is fine. Just please come up with some evidence or reason for it, don't continue to say "because someone told me to think that way" (the people who wrote the Bible included).

http://saveelca.blogspot.com/2006/05/top-10-social

I just skimmed this, but it seems as though they are atleast trying to make a solid argument.

Dan 2 years ago

What if it were just left up to each individual judge, ship captain, or holy man to deside for him/herself whether to perform gay marriages? Maybe for the judge it should matter, but for the other two, I would certainly not be ok with them being forced to perform a marraige they weren't comfortable with just because the state they live in say they have to. Except for the judge because he works for the people of that state.
